Job Description Job Description Position SummaryThe Volunteer
Engagement Manager is a strategic leader responsible for the
oversight, growth, and excellence of Foundation Communities’
organization-wide volunteer initiatives. This role serves as the
primary architect of a "best-in-class" volunteer experience,
managing a team of coordinators who manage six diverse programs and
engage over 1,000 volunteers annually. The Manager will prioritize
high-level management of people and projects and serves as the
primary point of contact for external volunteer inquiries. As an
engaged leader, you will ensure volunteer engagement is cohesive,
mission-aligned, and impactful. This role achieves results through
the leadership and coordination of staff, not through direct
program execution.Primary Duties and Responsibilities Strategic
Leadership & People Management Directly supervise and mentor a team
of three Volunteer Coordinators, providing the coaching and ethical
leadership necessary to meet departmental goals. Develop and
implement a comprehensive plan to increase the capacity and reach
of volunteer programs across the organization. Create opportunities
for volunteers to move along a continuum of engagement, connecting
them to various programs to ensure year-round involvement. Model
effective delegation, prioritization, and decision-making to ensure
Volunteer Coordinators are empowered owners of execution. Project
Management & Operations Oversee all aspects of the volunteer
lifecycle—including outreach, recruitment, training, support,
evaluation, recognition, and retention—through the management of
staff and detailed project timelines. Provide strategic oversight
and accountability for the Volunteer Impact Fair, the annual
organization-wide volunteer recruitment event, ensuring staff-led
planning aligns with organizational goals. Establish cohesive,
consistent processes across all program areas to ensure a unified
Foundation Communities experience for every volunteer. Lead the
creation and adherence of master project timelines for large-scale
seasonal initiatives, ensuring coordinators meet critical
milestones for the launch and execution of programs like Tax Help
and Health Coverage Enrollment. Volunteer Engagement Set strategy
and success metrics for volunteer recognition initiatives,
delegating execution to coordinators to ensure high levels of
volunteer retention and satisfaction. Drive community mobilization
through high-impact, high-volume communication. Responsible for the
editorial voice of our large audience outreach, optimizing every
touchpoint to increase engagement and community participation.
Provide strategic oversight and accountability of the annual
recognition events including key events; Volunteer Appreciation
Dinner and the Outstanding Service Award Breakfast. Manage
organization-wide recognition initiatives for Volunteer
Appreciation Week communications across social media and email
platforms. Data-Driven Engagement Analyze program data to identify
trends, evaluate team effectiveness, and refine engagement
strategies that move volunteers along the organization’s continuum
of involvement. Lead annual program evaluations for volunteers and
key staff to identify opportunities for growth, operational change,
and improved volunteer satisfaction. Help develop and oversee
leadership opportunities for long-term volunteers to increase their
impact and investment in the mission. Work closely with Data &
Engagement Support Specialist to ensure we have systems to maintain
good, clean data. Skills and Qualifications Minimum five (5) years
of experience in program coordination, community engagement, or
nonprofit management. Volunteer engagement experience is a plus. At
least 2–3 years of experience successfully managing a professional
staff, with a focus on coaching and professional development.
Proven track record of managing complex, concurrent projects with
competing deadlines and moving parts. Ability to authentically
build relationships with diverse stakeholders and move them toward
deeper mission involvement. Exceptional written and oral
communication skills; ability to deliver inspirational
presentations to large groups. Proficiency in specific Volunteer
Management Systems (VMS) or CRMs. A deep commitment to Diversity,

during peak seasons. Physical Demands/Work Environment General work
in the office, including sitting or standing, twisting at a desk,
computer keyboarding and typing, making and taking phone calls
Frequent on-site events and visits, both indoors and outdoors, at
all Foundation Communities locations Occasional lifting up to 20
