Virtual Reading Teacher ES/MS/HS - Hourly rate based on experience and education

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Valid State of Texas Teacher Certification in the area of instruction. Experience with mastery-based or individualized learning approaches to student education. 1-3 years of teaching experience in a Texas Public School, with documented experience teaching online courses for students in Grades 6-12 preferred, Valid driver's license and work eligibility status. Ability to pass a criminal and driving background check.

Critical Action Items:

1. Maintain ownership of the knowledge of students and commit to stretching students' cognitive capacities.

2. Apply accomplished pedagogical expertise to create and execute lessons aligned to state standards while relating to and anticipating student needs through progress monitoring using the partner school district curriculum resources

3. Use differentiated instruction to personalize learning and proactively minimize confusion or disengagement.

4. Deliver instruction to generate further student inquiry to promote problem-solving, real-world application and high-order thinking.

5. Establish an overwhelmingly positive class climate to ensure that your virtual classroom is an emotional and social oasis for students.

Other Responsibilities:

1. Work effectively with school districts, community organizations, government agencies, parents, students, and/or staff.

2. Utilize analytical and reflective methods for formal and informal student data.

3. Display mutual respect with students while maintaining an emotionally safe and supportive learning environment.

4. Partner with special educators to determine the appropriate implementation of accommodations and modifications for specific content standards

5. Serve as a test administrator during all state testing examination windows and district assessment testing as needed.

6. Maintain confidentiality on issues concerning the program and staff.

7. Maintain current knowledge and interpret applicable rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, State and Federal laws, codes and regulations.

8. Consult with educational partners to analyze system needs for management information and functional operations.

9. Maintain systems, databases, files, etc. ensuring integrity, security, and confidentiality of data.

10. Assist with special projects, programs and events.

11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Measurable Deliverables:

1. Comply with all record keeping and reporting systems to provide accurate, confidential, and timely information regarding children, families, and staff.

2. Successfully complete continuing professional development as required, including those specific to online learning.

3. Maintain knowledge of the accommodations and modifications to be implemented in an IEP or 504 plan, and implement any accommodations and modifications through the development of appropriate assignments and assessments.

4. Comply with the Texas Educator Code of Ethics, agency-specific administrative directives, and other manuals and procedures documents

5. Analyze program data, external report findings, and trends in early learning and community characteristics, translate implications and limitations and anticipates planning and information needs of agency programs.

Requirements:

1. Demonstrated leadership skills through professional presence and reinforcement of agency mission, vision, and culture to encourage passion, engagement, and accountability among program staff.

2. Demonstrated courtesy and sensitivity with agency staff, children, and parents, including effective management of difficult or emotional child and/or parent situations.

3. Strong "people acumen" and knowledge of human resources policy requirements and personnel management strategies.

4. During the STAAR and TELPAS state assessment windows, including the summer STAAR session, virtual staff may be assigned to proctor/administer student assessments at a district's testing centers. Virtual staff may be assigned to proctor at a site near their residence or at a location that requires intrastate travel and possibly overnight lodging. (STAAR and TELPAS dates are contingent to change pending the direction of the TEA.)

5. Attend in-person professional development prior to the school year starting, and In-person training, conferences, and in-services as required by leadership throughout the year.

6. Ability to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

7. Ability to work independently in a flexible schedule including nights, holidays, and weekends.

8. Possess sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socio-economic characteristics.

9. Familiarity with applicable state and federal Head Start regulations, performance standards and guidelines.
