Job Description:
Description Position available in the Division of Stormwater
Maintenance. Performs heavy manual work in the maintenance of
County drainage ways and their associated structures. Responsible
for serving as a lead worker in the absence of the supervisor;
assigns and directs the activities of a small group of employees.
Maintains drainage systems, and if silted in, re-constructs the
drainage ways as needed. Observes and detects illicit discharges at
outfalls as part of the County VSMP (Virginia Stormwater Management
Permit). Additional responsibilities include assisting with the
collection of storm debris. Minimum Qualifications High school
graduate or equivalent with experience operating hand and power
tools and some supervisory experience required; or any equivalent
combination of education and experience.Must have the ability to
interpret and read maps and drawings of drainage
easements.Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the
Commonwealth of Virginia with good driving record mandatory.Safety
shoes required.Requires an acceptable criminal background check.

employment.Work is performed outdoors under all types of weather
conditions with exposure to the usual hazards associated with
outside maintenance and construction work.This position is
considered an Essential Position (County designation as ALPHA)
which requires the employee to report to work during inclement and
extreme weather conditions, often outside normally scheduled work
hours, or as notified by a supervisor. Physical Demands Must be
physically able to operate a variety of hand and power tools
including weed eaters, chain saws, industrial mowers, backpack
blowers, power winches, pole saws, shovels, and rakes, etc. Must be
able to lift between 50 and 100 pounds, and operate and carry gas
powered motorized equipment for the better part of a work day. Work
involves walking, standing, stooping and bending on a daily
