Position Summary The Laredo Medical Center- University of Incarnate Word Family Medicine Residency Program is the result of a partnership between the Laredo Medical Center and the graduate medical education branch of the University of Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine- the Texas Institute for Graduate Medical Education and Research ( TIGMER ). The main objective of this program is to educate and train physicians in the specialty of family medicine and encourage these residents to be justice-minded, global citizens using a community-based, distributed model of education. This position is a full-time position, with 50% of time dedicated to administration of the program and 50% of time dedicated to patient care, by direct and indirect means. The Program Director will direct the development of curriculum and rotations and ensure compliance with accrediting bodies. All faculty members will have their own continuity clinic as well as supervise the residents in their continuity clinic, hosted at Gateway Community Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center. Faculty members will supervise residents in the inpatient hospital service as well as obstetrics/gynecology. The Program Director will operate within the UIWSOM framework of lifelong learning through collaborative scholarship, innovative educational excellence and learner-centered
curricula. This position is considered a "Responsible Employee" under Title IX federal regulations and "Mandatory Reporter" under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. Essential Functions 1. Demonstrates dedication to Family Practice Education.
- Provide didactic instruction for residents
- Supervise residents in the clinical setting, including outpatient, obstetrics, and inpatient medicine
2. Responsible for monitoring the faculty appointments, assignments, outcomes, and proper conduct of educational activities
3. Responsible for the supervision, direction, evaluation, and administration of the Family Medicine Program
- Provide direction and leadership necessary to obtain and/or maintain the Family Medicine Residency Program with Full Residency Review Committee Accreditation
- Conduct ongoing review of the residency program as required by RRC and ACGME
- Participate wit administrative officials and, Residency Program Directors in recruiting and making recommendations for improvement in the educational programs at Laredo Medical Center
4. Assure that services are performed in accordance with and sufficient for compliance with the requirements of all required accrediting bodies such as the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the State of Texas, and the System's liability carrier
5. Serve as a member of TIGMER Graduate Medical Education Committee
6. Recruit, retain, and promote high caliber residents who exhibit interest and commitment to excellence in patient care and medical education, demonstrated competency in clinical research, high ethics, and a commitment to a high order of professionalism
7. Participate in the budgeting process relative to the residency program
8. Approve clinical teaching and research performance review of each faculty member as reviewed by respective medical directs. Review clinical teaching, managing, and research performance of medical directors individually and annually. Provide a copy of each written review to the DIO
9. Provide direct patient care through their own continuity clinic
10. Participating in activities, which will enhance role development:
- Maintain clinical competency in Family Medicine
- Serve on various medical staff committees
- Enhance clinical research among faculty, residents, and self
11. Participate in activities, which demonstrate professional commitment to position and to the affiliate institutions
- Set short and long term goals for professional growth
- Actively participate in regional and national organizations, which enhance personal growth, as well as to the image of the TIGMER and UIW System
- Be a role model not only for the Department of Family Medicine but for the entire TIGMER and UIW System
- Obtain clinical appointment with leading institutions of medical education Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities --- Ability to lead the development and continue improvement of the Department of Family Medicine to be a leading community teaching department, as compared with peer community teaching departments nationally
--- Ability to lead by example and conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the highest standards of professional ethics
--- Ability to provide written program evaluation report to the DIO and Graduate Medical Education Committee addressing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and needs for the program
--- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA .
--- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. Required Education DO or MD degree from an accredited U.S. osteopathic medical school or an accredited U.S. allopathic medical school. Required Work Experience --- Five to ten years of Family Medicine. --- Three to five years of experience as a Director, Associate Director, or Core Faculty member of a Family Medicine Residency Training Program. Preferred Qualifications --- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish. Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations --- Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Texas. --- Completion of an AOA or ACGME accredited Family Medicine Residency. --- Board Certified with Maintenance of Certification with the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians or American Board of Medicine.
