As the Director, Data Engineering you will join an elite team
committed to changing health care through outstanding service and
valuable products. This role requires both technical and
professional leadership of data engineering staff in the delivery
of best- in-class data infrastructure and pipelines to support
multiple analytical products in various stages of development. The
role requires an ability to communicate effectively with all levels
of technical and non-technical staff, and an ability to develop
strong internal working relationships through credible industry
knowledge, and relevant expert strategic advice. You'll enjoy the
flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you
take on some tough challenges. - Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor team of data engineers that develop advanced
data engineering capablities to serve machine learning and business
intelligence processes.
- Promote common frameworks and best practices in code
development, deployment and automation/orchestration of data
pipelines.
- Partner with Actuarial, Data Science and Business Intelligence
leaders on the broader team to design best practices and standards
in the Data area for processing and analyzing data and for
supporting productionalized analytic pipelines.
- Own and manage the deliverables assigned to the data
engineering team, ensuring accurate, concise documentation of the
code base aligns to the code, testing, and deployment. -This
includes data ingestion an enrichment pipelines that support
critical analytics, as well as productionlized pipelines of various
machine learning models that feed into downstream systems.
- Partner with Technology and Infrastructure leaders on
architecture approaches to advance the data and analytics platform,
including exploring new tools and techniques that leverage the
cloud environment (Azure, Snowflake, others)
- Mentor and train junior members of the team
- Design conceptional and logical data models, architecture
diagrams and flowcharts You'll be rewarded and recognized for your

provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience leading and developing a technical
development team. -
- Deep experience working with Data in a hands-on development and
strong understanding of software engineering principles
- Strong experience with Apache Spark and related Big Data stack
and technologies, preferably using Scala, else PySpark
- Experience working with both real-time and batch data, knowing
the strengths and weaknesses of both and when to apply one over
another
- Experience building data pipelines on either AWS, Azure or GCP,
following best practices in Cloud deployments
- Ability to debug complex data issues while working on very
large data sets with billions of records
- Fluent in SQL (any flavor), with experience using Window
functions and more advanced features, having served in various
capacities within design, development and deployment of data
warehouses or relational/analytical/multi-dimensional data
marts
- Understanding of DevOps tools, Git workflow and building CI/CD
pipelines
- Experience working with Kubernetes and Docker, and
knowledgeable about cloud infrastructure automation and management
(e.g., Terraform)
- Ability to work with business and technical audiences, on
business requirement meetings, technical white boarding exercises,
and SQL coding/debugging sessions
- Familiar with Airflow or similar orchestration tool

- Experience with shell scripting languages
- Experience with Databricks -
- Experience using Airflow in orchestrating data pipelines,
Airflow operators and hooks
- Well versed in Python, in fulfilling multiple general-purpose
use-cases, and not limited to developing data APIs and
pipelines
- Familiarity with production quality ML and/or AI model
development and deployment.

is $113,500 to $218,100. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada
residents is $113,500 to $218,100. Pay is based on several factors
including but not limited to education, work experience,
