OVERVIEW:The Director of Foundational Literacy is an exciting
opportunity for an individual with deep content knowledge of
literacy at the primary school level (PreK through 4th Grade) and
passion for curriculum and instruction. The Director of
Foundational Literacy will play a critical role at the state-level
in one of KIPP's most progressive reform efforts in order to drive
improved student results, including growth and achievement, college
and career readiness, and closing the literacy opportunity gap.You

Responsibilities
- Vision & Strategic Thinking I Create a strategy for PK-4
foundational literacy aligned to priorities and metrics, and
execute plans effectively to ensure strong literacy implementation
across the state, in partnership with KTX Academic Leadership &
Programming and Academic Recovery teams.
- Academic Program I Refine our current PreK Curriculum to align
to our students' needs; partner with KTX Academic Leadership and
Programming team on curriculum design for K-2 ELA.
- Leadership & Coaching I Coach and build capacity in Regional
Early Literacy Leads and Achievement Specialists as they coach
alongside school leadership teams in service of PK-2 foundational
literacy achievement.
- Data-Driven Decision-Making I Drive the implementation of PK-4
foundational literacy assessments (CIRCLE, mCLASS, STEP); regularly
analyze a variety of qualitative and quantitative data at the
school-, region- and state-levels to identify strengths and gaps in
the curriculum itself and/or its implementation.
- Professional Development I Plan and facilitate virtual and
in-person professional development on curriculum and instruction to
Teachers and Leaders ensure all regions are on a path to implement
the curriculum with fidelity and achieve academic
goals.Qualifications
- Experience in the diagnosing, designing, developing and
implementing and evaluating early reading instruction across a
portfolio of schools
- Experience in coaching leaders
- Proven ability to facilitate change in a complex
environment
- Subject matter expert in Science of Teaching Reading
- Strong analytical skills, interpretation, and research
skills
- Proven ability to build healthy, effective working
relationships with employees at various levels of an
organization
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and varying
topics and prove ability to quickly learn and get up to speed on a
variety of subject matters
- Ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely, both
orally and in writing Required Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree requiredRequired
Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
- Completion of Texas Reading Academies or equivalentTravel
Requirements:
- Ability to travel to various locations throughout the four KIPP
Texas regions (Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San
Antonio), travel time approximately 30% - 40%Additional
