This is an executive-level position that has accountability for developing new relationships with large, complex employers that will drive revenue expansion for UnitedHealthcare Employer and Individual and Optum within the National Market segment.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop trusted executive-level relationships with a targeted set of prospective clients in the National Accounts space; client include large, multi-national and complex employers that represent strategically important relationships for UnitedHealth Group
  • Define and execute multi-year strategies that deliver unique value for the targeted employers and create opportunities for UnitedHealth Group that will result in the placement of UnitedHealthcare and Optum products and services and increase overall revenue
  • Leverage all of UnitedHealth Group's capabilities and assets in an effort to design and deliver custom tailored solutions that will address the unique needs of the targeted employers
  • Partner with Executives across all of UnitedHealth Group's businesses to identify and create solutions aligned with the targeted clients' needs while simultaneously developing deep and trusted relationships
  • Establish productive internal partnerships that span UnitedHealth Group's various functions and businesses
  • Work with other UnitedHealth Group business units to facilitate joint opportunities; collaborate and provide feedback in the development and enhancement of current products and customer offerings
  • Drive innovation across National Accounts to support real-time strategy refinement utilizing lessons learned and best practices to drive continuous improvement across all businesses
  • Anticipate industry trends and assess competitor positioning to proactively position the company for long term success that translates to revenue growth and the development of new enterprise strategic relationships for UnitedHealth Group
  • Possess solid leadership qualities, organizational skills as well as business and financial acumen
  • Identify business opportunities that fall outside UnitedHealth Group's traditional products and services that ultimately translate into additional growth and expansion into new markets for all involved parties
  • Represent the company both externally and internally as an industry expert and thought leader with existing and prospective customers, brokers, consultants and government agencies
  • Maintain an aggressive cadence in terms of individual and group meetings, calls and social interactions with all prospective clients
  • Active involvement with national industry groups such as the Business Group on Health; coordinate and promote the participation of UnitedHealth Group Executives at annual meetings as subject matter experts, showcasing our talent and maintaining our position as the industry leader in healthcare

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree
    • 15+ years of experience in the healthcare or other insurance/benefits industry partnering and consulting with large National Account Employers
    • 5+ years of experience in a capacity responsible for business development with a proven track record of success in securing new business while simultaneously achieving a high level of persistency as measured by customer retention
    • Proven experience managing and influencing effectively in a large, matrixed environment
    • Familiarity with all aspects of healthcare sales and marketing along with a solid understanding of the impact of sales activities on UnitedHealth Group's operations and profitability
    • Proven ability to assess problems and implement solutions based on sound marketing, operational and financial principles
    • Proven ability to develop creative solutions to address a wide variety of unique market problems and opportunities
    • Advanced consultative selling skills
    • Expert level new business development skills with the ability to cultivate new relationships with potential accounts/clients
    • Solid strategic focus and orientation in addressing and solving complex issues
    • Ability to perform this role in an office setting or other company location

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Advanced degree in business administration, marketing or a related field
      • Consulting experience working with large complex customers

        All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy

        California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $175,000 to $275,000. Role is also eligible to receive bonuses based on sales performance. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
