OpportunityReporting to the Dean as a member of his leadership team
and working in close partnership with the Assistant Vice President
for Development, Campus Partnerships and the staff in the
University Development Office, the Chief Development Officer will
play an essential leadership role in advancing overall fundraising
for the College and, in doing so, position the College as an
important and significant component of the recently launched "What
Starts Here" capital Campaign at UT Austin. To date, the college
has raised nearly 98% of its twice upward-revised $180 million goal
and has the potential to raise $200 million during the "What Starts
Here" campaign that will conclude in August 2026.The Chief
Development Officer will lead in the development and implementation
of a comprehensive fundraising plan that optimizes the best of the
College of Education'sresources, which include an outstanding
faculty, committed alumni and a university development program that
is well- resourced and on the rise by every measure. They will
grow, develop and lead a team of development professionals to
support and build the college's fundraising goals.The successful
candidate will be an exceptional fundraiser and colleague, leading
and furthering the growth of the College of Education's development
team through strategically growing and cultivating a portfolio of
high net worth donors and state and national foundation partners.
They will have a high level of emotional intelligence, will be a
collaborative, steady, organized and experienced leader with
demonstrated success closing seven-figure plus gifts. They will
marshal the expertise and talents of the College of Education's
faculty, Advisory Council members, alumni and other donors and
volunteers to secure resources for the school's top-ranked faculty,
researchers, students, programs and centers.ResponsibilitiesServing
as the Chief Development Officer for the College of Education at UT
Austin, the successful candidate will plan, lead and grow all
aspects of fundraising and comprehensive development initiatives
with a specific focus ondonors with a capacity of $100,000 or
more.
- Carry an active portfolio of 50-75 prospective donors, solicit
gifts and conduct executive prospect management meetings alone and
with the Dean and other college leaders to optimize time with
donors. Within 12 months of start date, consistently produce
$4,000,000 - $6,000,000 in personal productivity per year. Rising
to $7,000,000 to $10,000,000 by the end of the third year.
- Build on current fundraising momentum and productivity through
strategic fundraising initiatives, including but not limited to,
increased solicitation of major and principal gifts, growth of
corporate and foundation funders and continued development of
robust and highly proactive planned giving programs.
- Work collaboratively and proactively with University
Development to further the fundraising efforts of the College of
Education. Partnering with colleagues in Major and Principal
Giving, Transformational Giving, Planned Giving, Corporate
Relations, Foundation Relations and Annual Giving to increase the
breadth of the college's prospect base as well as create and
nurture a culture of philanthropy within the College of Education
and its constituencies.
- Serve as a member of the Dean's leadership team and articulate
the development team's role in achieving the college's strategic
vision and mission. Establish and maintain strong and mutually
beneficial relationships with external contacts and constituents on
behalf of the College.
- Establish and communicate fundraising goals, provide leadership
on prospect cultivation and solicitation strategies, and provide
strategic leadership to the College of Education's development
team.
- Work closely and in collaboration with Director of Strategy and
External Relations and Director of Marketing and Communications and
other members of the leadership on initiatives that enhance the
college's reputation and visibility externally and among UT's
donors.Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- 7+ years of experience as a development professional.
- Proven track record of closing six- and seven-figure plus
gifts.
- Ability to build significant relationships with new and
existing donors.
- Ambition and skills to strategically grow and manage a
successful team.
- Exemplary written and oral communications skills.
- High degree of emotional intelligence and ability to
successfully engage faculty and staff throughout the College of
Education as well as colleagues across campus
- Experience with a comprehensive campaign in a complex setting
such as higher education or health care.
- Intellectual curiosity and desire to appreciate, understand,
and advance the academic and scientific pursuits of the college to
donors, and the general public.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively and work well
under pressure.
- Capable of working independently, while also engaging in
collaboration between teams.
- Highly organized, collaborative, and collegial.
- Ability to travel throughout the United States to engage
prospects and donors.Relevant education and experience may be
substituted as appropriate.Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher
- Experience in higher education fundraising, especially in areas
that are about improving people and communities, coupled with the
ability to connect with faculty and researchers and effectively
communicate their areas of research to donors.Salary
