Job Description:

Purpose of JobResponsible for the leadership of USAA's corporate communications function, to include the development and execution of the strategic direction aligned with enterprise goals. Effectively manages enterprise communications resources to USAA's best advantage while ensuring enterprise compliance. Responsible for internal and external communications, reputation management, and media relations to support USAA's mission and business objectives.Job RequirementsTasks:* Defines a clear and compelling vision for company communications at USAA.* Ensures compliance with all internal and external controls and regulatory standards.* Establishes and directs internal and external communications programs to support specific objectives of USAA's businesses as well as USAA's mission, reputation, and enterprise goals.* Demonstrates senior executive-level thought leadership, strategy development and operational planning.* Oversees implementation of communications strategies and tactics to ensure that clear and consistent messages reach appropriate audiences.* Provides strategic day-to-day communications counsel to all functional heads. Establishes strong, collaborative relationships with USAA's senior leadership team.* Fosters positive relationships between Corporate Communications and the businesses and collaborates closely with leadership in support of business objectives.* Creates strong team unity and an engaged workforce where every employee takes personal responsibility for USAA's mission.* Uses leadership abilities to advocate for engaged employees through teambuilding, coaching, performance management and professional development.* Acts as a responsible steward of USAA's resources by managing unit budget, workforce plan, establishing appropriate business metrics and regular monitoring to ensure both effective and efficient operations.* Serves periodically as an executive sponsor for USAA programs (diversity and inclusion, coaching/development and culture).* Travels on behalf of USAA and represents the brand at publicly sponsored events.* Recruits, develops and retains high-performing communication professionals and ensures the organization stays abreast of best practices.Minimum Education:* Bachelor's degree required.* 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.Minimum Experience:* Ten or more years of progressive communications experience developing strategies, managing major communications initiatives and delivering results within a complex matrixed environment.* Ten or more years of people leadership experience in building and developing high-performing teams.* Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions and managing work to achieve strategic goals.* Senior executive-level business acumen in the areas of business operations, industry practices and emerging trends.* Eight years' experience in a leadership position supporting C-level executives or board members in a lead communications role.* Ability to set high standards for excellent customer service to both internal and external customers, and coach team members to deliver the same.* Ability to identify and manage risk. Understanding of legal, compliance and regulatory issues applicable to our industry.
