Accounting Supervisor - Latin America & Government Reporting

Job Description:

Supervises the timely preparation of financial statements, internal reports, supporting analyses, and other ad-hoc requests related to Valero's operations in Latin America. Ensures government surveys and state reporting requirements are completed and reported timely. Coaches, evaluates, and provides constructive feedback to staff. Acts as liaison between staff and upper management. Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.

  • Supervises the preparation of and reviews the following financial reporting documents related to the Latin America operations:
    • Month-end journal entries;
    • Monthly basic financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, including various supplemental schedules and variance analyses;
    • Monthly Business Unit Reports summary and statistical analysis, including margin analysis and volumetric reports (by region and by product), administrative and operating expense summaries;
    • Monthly binder used in communicating results to upper management; and
    • Documents that support the annual audited financial statements of Valero Peru in accordance with IFRS.
    • Supervises the maintenance of the applicable statutory chart of accounts to ensure alignment with U.S. GAAP and IFRS requirements.
    • Performs research on inquiries made by teams in Mexico and Peru, and assists Director with coordination of issue resolution with appropriate personnel.
    • Supervises the preparation of and reviews the government surveys (monthly, quarterly, and annual) and ensures they are submitted timely.
    • Supervises the preparation of and coordinates with external parties the completion of the annual unclaimed property reporting. Stays current on changes in law and regulations.
    • Supervises ad-hoc requests made by management.This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.Qualifications
      • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
      • Minimum of eight years of accounting experience, equivalent public accounting, and /or auditing experience required.
      • Bilingual in English and Spanish (read, write, and speak) required.
      • CPA license preferred.
      • Experience in refining or petroleum marketing industry preferred.
      • Thorough understanding of U.S. GAAP, theories, and ability to apply them to the Company's accounting needs preferred.
      • Ability to understand and apply concepts under IFRS preferred.
      • Ability to read and interpret company policies, regulatory guidelines, and other work-related documentation preferred.
      • Ability to abide by confidentiality requirements when working with sensitive information, results, and communications preferred.
      • Skill in providing thorough, efficient, and effective customer service to individuals at all levels within the organization preferred.
      • Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal methods preferred.
      • Ability to accomplish work within required timelines, including short, long, and emergency timeframes preferred.
      • Ability to cross-train in other department duties to ensure efficient coverage of department responsibilities preferred.
      • Ability to work with others to accomplish challenging assignments preferred.
      • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple assignments to ensure completion of tasks within stated time requirements preferred.
      • Experience in an international public accounting firm preferred.
      • Working knowledge of SAP preferred.
      • Advanced skills using Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word and Excel) preferred.
      • Understanding of Power BI data analytics preferred.
      • Ability to travel abroad to Mexico and Peru preferred.Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
