role:The Respiratory Care Practitioner-Transport (RCPT)
collaborates with other healthcare providers, both internally and
externally, in overseeing an ongoing comprehensive plan of care for
a complex patient or groups of patients. In collaboration with the
Transport Registered Nurse (TRN) anticipates consequences of
altered physiologic homeostasis and utilizes advanced skills to
initiate early interventions. Participates in identifying, planning
and implementing changes to improve service operations and patient
care outcomes. The RCPT additionally possesses the critical care
experience and specialized training to function interdependently
with the TRN in organizing and directing a critical care patient
interfacility transport (via ambulance, rotor wing aircraft, or
fixed wing aircraft) and in providing direct patient care to a
critical care patient with complex care needs. Serves as a
consultant/resource in a specialty area and functions as a change
agent by suggesting new or innovative approaches that result in an
improvement in quality. Uses knowledge gained to positively impact
care within specialty and resolve ethical issues. Promotes a
positive image of the institution within the community.Essential
Job Functions: Planning: The plan of care, when possible, is formed
in collaboration with the patient, significant others, and health
care team members. Plan of care is adjusted according to the
continual assessment of the patient. Assessment: Utilizes in-depth
assessment skills. Performing comprehensive patient assessments to
determine predictable and potential needs of patients in complex
situations. Diagnosis: Provides care for complex patients,
correlates clinical data with diagnosis and symptoms in order to
initiate appropriate therapy. Outcome Identification: Identifies
expected outcomes individualized to the patient. Makes judgments in
conjunction with the TRN in recognizing need to change plan of care
based on patient outcome. Implementation: Anticipates impending
crisis and initiates early intervention to prevent problems or
complications. Performs advanced skills specific to care of the
critically ill/injured patient, both in a hospital setting and in
the transport environment. Evaluation: Evaluates and modifies the
plan of care in conjunction with the TRN based on observable
responses to interventions and attainment of patient
outcomes.Qualifications EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED AND/OR
PREFERRED:Education: Graduate of an accredited program of
Respiratory Care Practitioner program. Experience: Two (2) years of
direct care respiratory care practitioner experience in a
specialized critical care area (NICU, PICU, Emergency Department
(ED)). Employee completes initial and ongoing training and
competencies as defined by service line, facility and
department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient
population served (if applicable). Preferred: Prior transport
experience LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: ALL of the following: Current
Respiratory Care Practitioner Certification License from the Texas
Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Current Registered
Respiratory Therapist (RRT) issued by the National Board of
Respiratory Care (NBRC). Preferred:Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist
certification issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care
