Job Description Action Staffing Solutions is seeking experienced
and compassionate Surgical Technologists/OR Techs for a hospital in
San Antonio, TX. Position Summary : In this position you will
function as a member of the surgical team, passing instruments,
sutures, and sponges during surgery. Individuals who are successful
in this position are able to anticipate the needs of surgeons, pass
instruments, provide sterile items in an efficient manner and
practice aseptic technique wherever and whenever indicated.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not
limited to the following. Additional duties may be assigned as
needed. Must possess expertise in the theory and application of
sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human
anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and
technologies to facilitate a physician---s performance of invasive
therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Surgical procedures range
from routine to complex high risk or trauma. Must be able to
circulate the full range of surgical procedures performed in the
operating room at the hospital May perform the role of circulator
under the supervision of an RN Exercise the universal precautions
set forth by the CDC when providing direct patient care and/or
indirect patient care involving possible exposure to contaminated
items Transport patients from hospital units to the OR assuring
safe transportation of the patient Screen patients prior to
transport to ensure preoperative medications have been given,
jewelry, dentures and any prosthetic devices have been removed
checking the patient chart and identification band for completeness
Comfort patients fearing surgery Contact family and significant
others to provide information, counseling, emotional support,
alleviate anxiety, fear and stress concerning the patient condition
and/or prognosis Document all patient care given and the progress
of the patient using hospital documentation standards in the
patient---s medical record manually and/or electronically Perform a
vast array of direct patient care procedures to include, but are
not limited to: range of motion exercise, lifting, turning,
transporting and positioning patients and securing patients as
required Orient and train newly assigned personnel and students
explaining OR procedures and requirements, identify and explain the
use of surgical instruments and equipment, sterilization techniques
and aseptic procedures Observe, monitor and report findings to
restore health and to prevent complications and deterioration in
conditions such as respiratory distress, neurovascular and
neurologic compromise, hemorrhage, sepsis, cardiac and vascular
emergencies and requires emergent corrective action within the
scope of practice. Follow perioperative nursing care plan in
preparing patients and OR. May be required to shave operative
areas. Responsible for quality assurance/risk management and
responds to breaches of standard procedures which compromise the
patient or staff members. May also serve as a project officer for
select committees and participate in research projects that are
consultative in nature and involve sharing information, gathering
data for new or existing technologies. Accounts for sponges,
needles, blades, and instruments during the procedure and
participates with counts at prescribed times during the procedure
with the OR Nurse. Also measures blood and fluid loss. Assists
surgeons with complex or potentially life-threatening procedures
and assists Anesthesiologists and Anesthetists during induction and
throughout procedure. Hand instruments to the surgeon during the
procedure by anticipating the surgeon's needs and assist with
application of dressings. Select, assemble, and organize required
supplies, equipment and instruments for specific surgical procedure
in accordance with operative work sheets, physician preference card
and/or conferring with physician or charge nurse. Obtain sterile
supplies, sutures, dressings, linens, blood, medications,
solutions, instruments, etc. for the specific procedure. Open
instrument sets, pour solutions, set up and adjust equipment such
as electric coagulator, electric bone saw and drill, operate
microscope, air power drills, defibrillators, and resuscitators,
make suction connections and adjust operating lights. Clean OR
after surgery, remove and dispose of soiled and/or contaminated
materials, change linen, washes, disassembles, sterilize, and
reassemble instruments. Replenish sterile packs and general
supplies and restock shelves after using existing supplies. Set up
and perform first echelon maintenance on all OR equipment. Report
all incidents, accidents, or potential hazards in accordance with
established policies Other duties as assigned Minimum
Qualifications: License, Certification, Education: BCLS American
Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is required
Current and in good standing certification from the National Board
of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as a
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is required. High school
diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Experience:
Minimum of one (1) year experience within the last 3 years as a
certified Surgical Tech/OR Tech. Requirements: Must possess
expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic
technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical
procedures, and implementation tools and technologies. Must
exercise a positive, helpful demeanor, display courtesy and tact
frequently under stressful conditions and duress at an accelerated
pace due to life threatening patient situations. Must complete the
onboarding and hiring process including application(s), documents,
competency testing, background investigation(s) and drug screening
MUST BE ABLE TO PASS A FEDERAL BACKGROUND CHECK Must complete all
required training as assigned by Action Staffing Solutions and
client/facility pre-assignment and annually including but not
limited to OSHA, sharps injury prevention, HIPAA, and cultural
awareness. Immunization Records --- COVID-19, Hep B, TB test/chest
x-ray, influenza for the current season All employees must be fully
vaccinated (defined as two weeks following the completion of the
full series of the COVID-19 vaccine) and submit documentation proof
of COVID-19 vaccination. Religious and medical exemptions and

Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, and health
records Language: Ability to read, write and communicate in the
English language required Must have excellent critical thinking
skills and the ability to assess situations to make independent,
policy compliant decisions Must have strong interpersonal skills
and social sensitivity. Must be able to work with people of diverse
backgrounds Physical Requirements: Due to the nature of facilities
physical demands may vary between facilities and day to day, this
is not an all-inclusive list. Must be able to see, hear and
communicate Must be able to use proper body positioning and body
mechanics including to Regularly stand, sit, walk, run, climb,
kneel, crouch, bend, twist Dexterity and fine motor function
including strength, control, lifting, reaching and tool usage. Must
be able to lift 20 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds infrequently,
and lift or assist in lifting more than 50 pounds at times. Why
