GENERAL SUMMARY

Performs technical work auditing patient records based on provider notes to ensure appropriate medical/diagnostic codes were applied.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Reviews and assigns diagnostic and procedural codes based upon medical record documentation according to correct coding principles.
* Assigns codes if missing and ensures coding is appropriately completed to ensure timely and accurate billing.
* Researches and resolves coding related issues and assists in meeting productivity and quality standards.
* Analyzes payer denials and takes steps to ensure appropriate billing of claims.
* Works with supervisions to continuously improve the claim process.
* Serves as a reference to clinical and administrative staff with regard to coding practices and participates in continuing coding education of all staff.
* Provides back up to the front desk.
* Assists as a member of the Primary Care Revenue Management Committee.
* Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

* High School diploma or equivalency and one (1) year of experience working with medical/diagnostic code (ICD-10 and/or CPT codes). Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for one year of the required experience or education.

Licenses or Certifications

* Medical Billing Certificate

SUPERVISION

* Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.

COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES

Knowledge of:

* ICD 10 & current CPT codes
* CHCS medical records processes
* CHCS policies and procedures
* Physician specific regulations and policies related to documentation and coding
* Applicable software applications
* Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment

Skill in:

* Data entry
* Organization and time management
* Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
* Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios

Ability to:

* Run reports
* Provide feedback
* Effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships
* Maintain accurate and complete records
* Meet schedules and deadlines of the work
* Understand and carry out oral and written directions
* Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
* Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

* The position is generally sedentary. Employees sit most of the time, but may walk or stand for brief periods of time.

Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm
