QualificationsThe Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for
assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluation the nursing care
for patients suffering from chronic and end stage organ disease and
potential transplant patients and live donors. The RN coordinates
care delivered by other members of the transplant team to affect
positive outcomes for the patient.Minimum Education, Experience,
Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other
Job-Related Characteristics:1. Education: Graduate of a nursing
program: diploma, associate degree, or baccalaureate program.2.
Experience: At least 1 year RN experience and must meet ALL
requirements of RN IIEmployee completes initial and ongoing
training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and
department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient
population served (if applicable).Preferred: N/AMinimum License,
Certificates, or Registrations Required:1. Required: Valid and
Current Texas License - Registered NurseEssential Job Functions:1.
Assures the performance of necessary studies to determine a
patient's candidacy2. Assumes lead in directing responsibility of
all patient and family education; acts as the resource person
regarding transplantation for all staff nurses3. Assists in the
evaluation and selection of potential recipients and living
donors4. Maintains appropriate monitoring of patients' status
throughout work-up and while on the deceased donor organ transplant
waiting list.5. Coordinates comprehensive care with other team
members and monitors live donor post donation for
clinical/social/emotional issues and routine follow up visits;
Prepares patients for discharge and outpatient follow-up6.
Communicates all patient post donations issues and concerns to
other transplant team members and maintains communication with
patients' referring physicians.Additional Job Functions:1.
Participates in 24 hour call duties shared by all coordinators that
includes triaging patient problems, coming in to hospital/clinic as
needed and taking organ call for potential transplantation of
recipient(s)2. Recognizes and responds to crisis situations.
Notifies appropriate individuals of actual or impending crisis.3.
Identifies and completes assessments of patient/s.o. educational
needs. Develops and helps implement teaching plan. Provides
education consistent with patient's level of understanding using
existing resources for patient/s.o.4. Incorporates patient's
cultural and spiritual beliefs into care by making appropriate
referrals to chaplain, social services, case manager, etc. Reflects
these in plan of care with appropriate documentation of
interventions.5. Reports and documents patient's symptoms,
responses, and progress. Interventions are appropriate to patient's
symptoms, responses, and progress.6. Maintains continuity of care
through communication with other shifts and departments. Works
collaboratively with interdisciplinary team.7. Supports the mission
and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and demonstrates
excellent customer service at all times.8. Understands and is
committed to helping the Methodist Healthcare System and its
associated facilities achieve its goals under the MHS Financial
Performance Plan.9. Understands and enforces system, departmental
and hospital policies and procedures as well as established rules
and regulations.10. Must learn and comply with System and facility
safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment
and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe
conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety
features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job
duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance)
if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any
job function.11. Completes other duties as assigned.12. Keeps
abreast of the physician utilization of service, their specialty
and specific needs.13. Assists with promoting (through the TQM
philosophy) teamwork; assists with leading and facilitation
department procedures and process improvements.14. Assists in
monitoring productivity and quality and identifies areas for
improvement.Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital has been

pancreas transplant programs. The hospital is home to the Texas
Transplant Institute. We are the largest living donor kidney
transplant program in the US. In 2019 the center reached a major
milestone by performing 231 living donor kidney transplants in a
