Registered Nurse - Specialty Care Nurse Manager - San Antonio,
Texas
Duties
VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package:
The Specialty Care Nurse Manager applies the nursing process to
improve care, demonstrates leadership, develops staff through
employee engagement systems and processes at the unit, team and
work-group level to improve care and will demonstrate leadership by
involving others in improving care. The Specialty Care Nurse
Manager monitors PACT performance measures and metrics affecting
quality measures throughout medical specialties, telecare, diabetes
education, and traveling veteran coordination developing action
plans to address deficiencies including the
management/supervision/evaluation of care delivered by nursing and
other allied health care staff. The Specialty Care Nurse Manager
will contribute to the establishment/implementation of
evidence-based nursing standards of practice and serves as a role
model in comprehensive patient/family care delivery. The Specialty
Care Nurse Manager also provides ongoing feedback related to
performance and prepares performance evaluations/individual
development plans. The Specialty Care Nurse Manager applies
problem-solving skills to resolve conflicts, reduce barriers to
care and improve access. The Specialty Care Nurse Manager prepares
nursing schedules, monitors staffing patterns including
time/attendance, taking corrective action as needed. The Specialty
Care Nurse Manager is responsible for creating/updating unit
policies/procedures and communicating changes to staff in a timely
manner. The Specialty Care Nurse Manager provides/monitors
new-employees orientation and annual competencies. The Specialty
Care Nurse Manager will lead/delegate group activities to resolve
issues or accomplish specific tasks. The Specialty Care Nurse
Manager ensures compliance of Performance Measures, initiates
quality-improvement activities to improve outcomes, and evaluates
the practice of self and others using professional standards,
relevant statutes, and regulations taking corrective action to
improve deficiencies. The Specialty Care Nurse Manager generates
reports, responds to short notice taskers in a timely manner, and
actively manages/develops collaborative partnership with
clinicians, physicians, service-line leadership, and ancillary
service lines to achieve common goals. The Specialty Care Nurse
Manager is responsible to the Chief, Nursing Service for Primary
and Specialty Care. The primary duty location is Audie Murphy VA
Hospital.
NOTE: Upon assignment to this position, the incumbent's salary will
include two additional steps for assignment to the Nurse Manager
position.
Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for
performance awards
Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual
leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per
year)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and
federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care
(many federal insurance programs can be carried into
retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or
territory
Work Schedule: 0730-1600 Monday-Friday, Occasional Saturday
