Registered Nurse - Chief, Nursing Excellence - San Antonio,
Texas
Duties
The Chief, Nursing Excellence provides leadership, support and
guidance to the Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse
Executive (ADPCS/NE) in establishing and maintaining Nursing
Excellence, shaping clinical practice through professional
development and program development in accordance with the American
Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Pathway to Excellence and the
Magnet Recognition programs; implementation of an evidence-based
practice (EBP) model; oversight of Nursing Professional Governance
and related activities; and other performance improvement
programs.
- Functions as a consultant and mentor, leads others EBP projects
and initiatives that align with STVHCS overall mission and
strategic plan.
- Leads the organizations pursuit for Pathway to
Excellence/Magnet Recognition and represents the organization as
the Pathway to Excellence (PPD) and/or Magnet Program Director
(MPD).
- Promotes the provision of effective, high-quality care to all
patients.
- Assists the ADPCS and DADPCS in supporting a nursing
environment of excellence through relationships built with staff
and advanced practice nurses in the immediate and larger
community.
- Meets regularly with direct reports to provide leadership and
will be responsible for the outcomes associated with the applicable
programs.
- Monitor and provide direction in program development to align
with organizational mission/strategic initiatives, including
development of infrastructure and processes while working within
fiscal parameters.
- Maintains and promotes effective labor and management relations
and participates in negotiation agreements as appropriate. This
nurse may act on behalf of the Deputy Associate Director for
Patient Care Services/Deputy Nurse Executive in his/her
absence.
- Serves as a primary or alternate project manager for assigned
programs and performs special projects. Research and/or analyzes
unstable or complex program issues, and, based on conditions and
factors that relate to the subject program and related programs,
determines what information is required.
- Compiles, assembles, and classifies statistics from source
materials, computes statistical data, and verifies the authenticity
of source material.
- Reviews information, reconciles conflicting data, and devises
new or modified methods to analyze findings and to develop
recommendations and proposals.
- Performs special studies, which include analyzing data,
developing formats to report the results of studies, and
recommending alternative courses of action. The incumbent reviews
comprehensive analysis and recommends remedial actions.
- Administers established follow-up procedures for ensuring that
facility remedial actions are implemented in a timely manner,
independently taking appropriate action necessary to implement
programs or activities and correct problems.
- Provides technical expertise to STVHCS staff during the
development of facility projects or programs, including systems
redesign initiatives, employee engagement activities, annual
training of service partners, award and recognition activities,
development of goals, performance measures and priorities, and
assists in ensuring the organization's ability to respond to major
changes in building a continuously improving culture of engagement
for providing both exceptional patient and employee
experiences.
- Broadly acquainted with clinical treatment modalities,
administrative and clinical support systems and is knowledgeable
about the organization and multifaceted health care delivery
systems.
- Demonstrates expertise in the application of sophisticated
knowledge and skill as an RN, along with a high degree of
leadership, motivation, self-direction, and initiative in
evaluating Nursing Education, Feedback and Excellence programs.
