Job Description:
TSAOG Orthopaedics & Spine is a well-established and
community-focused multi-specialty physician group. Our mission is

traditions, as we have since 1947.This position is PRN, as needed
basis.What You'll Do:Provides direct patient care and other nursing
services to patients and their families/significant others by
applying and documenting the nursing process; assessment, nursing
diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.Assists in
setting up and performance of cases by assembly of equipment and
supplies according to physician preference cards.Assists in setting
up and performance of cases by opening of sterile pack, instruments
and supplies according to sterile technique.Assists in preparation
of the sterile field including sponge, needle and instrument
counts.Acts as scrub nurse or assistant to surgeon as directed,
maintaining integrity of sterile field.Acts a circulating nurse in
preparing patient for surgery, positioning patient in appropriate
position, and moving patient to and from operating table: other
duties as directed by Board Runner.Handles specimens according to
proper procedure.Assists in clean up of operating room following
surgery, including proper disposal of used supplies and sharps,
cleaning and decontamination of instruments, equipment and
operating room.Demonstrates understanding and utilization of
principles of asepsis in all duties.Accepts and conscientiously
applies emergency call procedures.Responsible for complete and
thorough performance of assigned tasks, addressing specific needs
of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients as
necessary.Provides nursing care for patients undergoing operative
procedures.Performs the perioperative nursing role to include
preoperative assessment of the patient, nursing care plan
formulation, operative care plan implementation and postoperative
evaluation of the patients response/outcome and of effectiveness
and appropriateness of nursing care provided.Assumes responsibility
for intra-operative patient safety related to positioning
activities, the use of equipment and use of chemicals and
solutions.Performs surgical counts (sponges, sharps and
instruments) and documents nursing care on the legal
records.Performs infection control activities to include
observation of the surgical team during procedures, taking
corrective actions PRN to maintain aseptic technique.Provides a
surgically clean environment for patient care. Ensures the
sterility of supplies and instrumentation used during operative
procedures.Performs as team leader, directing the activities of
professionals and coordinating efforts with the other professional
staff members. Assures the proper supplies, equipment and
instrumentation are available for surgical procedures. Assures
accurate, timely disposition of specimens, cultures and blood/blood
products with accompanying record keeping.Assumes responsibility
for coordination of a surgical service, updating surgeons
preference cards and instrument lists, in-servicing new procedures
and equipment and teaching newly assigned personnel rotating
through the surgical service.Assists anesthesia personnel with the
intubation/extubation of patients, the monitoring of fluid/volume
balance, administration of blood/blood products and the thermo
regulation of the patient.Monitor patient level of consciousness,
electrocardiogram, and BP during local anesthetic procedures.
Administers medication per physicians orders.Responsible for
narcotics count during these procedures.Actively participates in OR
CQI program by conducting monitoring of patient care activities and
following through steps to problem solve.Acts as the nursing
advocate for the patient, upholding the patients
rights.Collaborates with other professional team members.Is fully
knowledgeable of policies and procedures of the dept. of surgical
services.Assumes the duties of the supervisor in their absence.What
You'll Need:Must be currently licensed as a nurse in the State of
Texas or eligible for endorsement. Minimum of one year experience
as a nurse. Must possess BLS certification (ACLS/PALS
preferred).Demonstrates proficiency and independence in the care of
patients with complex diagnoses and nursing problems. Takes charge
effectively in emergency situations.Requires extensive mobility
(walking and standing) while performing duties. Periodic pushing,
pulling, and lifting of patients and /or equipment. Many have
exposure to patients with communicable diseases. May have exposure
to hazardous equipment or agents#ASC5Pay: $30.00 per hourby
