Job Description:

PTs support the company mission and goals by providing accurate and timely evaluations and physical therapy diagnoses with appropriate plans of care, while performing high quality evidence-based treatments and excellent customer service to individuals of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics, who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. Each treatment should be tailored to progress patients towards goals according to the plan of care.


Required Education: Master's or Doctorate degree in physical therapy from an accredited PT program.

Required Experience: No previous work experience needed. Demonstrates computer knowledge of programs related to position and displays competency on an ongoing basis.

Preferred Education/Experience: Clinical experience in outpatient physical therapy care, home health, as well as marketing and business familiarity.

Requirements: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Industry relevant experience and or knowledge to include up-to-date information on treatment techniques and evidence-based best practices as necessary to perform appropriate high-quality patient care.

Skills/Qualifications: Physiological knowledge, health promotion and maintenance, creating a safe, effective environment, motivating others, organization, good customer service, documentation, good listening ability, effective verbal communication.

Information technology skills: Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Computer skills including proficient use in Microsoft Office Products including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Outlook.

Regular Work Duties

General Functions of a Physical Therapist:

  • Interprets physician/non-physician provider's referral accurately and requests interpretation as necessary
  • Administers and interprets tests and measurements of patients for examination and evaluation purposes
  • Reviews patient chart and progress prior to treatment and modifies the treatment plan accordingly
  • Develops realistic functional goals based on patient and/or family expectations
  • Instructs and involves patient, family, PTA, social worker, nursing staff and discharge planner in patient's progress and discharge plans, participating in appropriate meetings
  • Performs selected tests and measurements according to all regulatory agency requirements, within the Physical Therapy Scope of Practice and state and local laws.
  • Uses appropriate modalities and procedures correctly demonstrating knowledge of indications and contraindications
  • Performs therapeutic procedures by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily-living activities; and in using supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses
  • Instructs and involves patient, family, and/or caregivers in patient's progress and discharge plans making appropriate discharge recommendations to the therapist and attends appropriate meetings

    Department/Business Unit Functions:

    • Demonstrates working knowledge of and ability to follow and implement departmental policies and procedures
    • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, demonstrating knowledge of principles of growth and development over the lifespan
    • Completes all necessary documentation in a legible, appropriate, concise, and timely manner while assuring compliance
    • Assures appropriate and safe equipment performance prior to each use
    • Provides in-service to staff as needed or requested
    • Possesses working knowledge of and demonstrates adherence to departmental policies and procedures
    • Organizes schedule to reflect patient priorities and needs of other staff
    • Delegates responsibility to supportive personnel appropriately and assures appropriate supervision and oversight for safety and compliance
    • Provides clinical education/instruction for PT/PTA students as needed or requested
    • Informs supervisor of incidents, accidents, equipment failure or unusual physician or patient problems immediately
    • Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
    • Maintains safe environment for patients and co-workers at all times
    • Addresses patient population-specific needs
    • Maintains legal and accreditation compliance by adhering to policy positions concerning federal, state, and local regulations, and Joint Commission standards; anticipating emerging issues.
    • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities reporting by completing all requested CQI measurement and documentation in a timely manner
    • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
    • Other job or business-unit related duties as assigned or requested

      Physical Requirements

      The essential job tasks or primary responsibilities that must be performed unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation are listed below:

      • Verbal communication, written communication, and listening skills to efficiently interact with medical staff, clients, families, and the public, both in person and by telephone
      • Good vision is required to cope with minute movements, figures, inspect clients and equipment, and calibrate equipment
      • Healthy, strong body for frequent lifting, pulling and pushing moderate to heavy loads, while at the same time climbing, balancing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling. Contact with agitated/combative clients may occur
      • Good motor coordination to handle clients and equipment safely
      • Good hand dexterity to perform simultaneous, multiple functions efficiently and accurately.
      • Ability to work indoors and outdoors
      • Must be able to comply with OSHA Category 1 standards for exposure to blood borne pathogens, diseases, and infections
      • Must be able to decide to when it is appropriate to wear, and be able to wear appropriate protective clothing and equipment to protect against workplace exposures
      • Universal precautions are required at all times
