Job Description:
Purpose of Job We are currently seeking an experienced Claims
Advisor (Life Claims) for the USAA Life Company. This position is
open to working a Hybrid work schedule from the San Antonio campus
or 100% Remote work from home.
The Life Insurance Claims Department is looking for top talent for
this new role to provide Subject Matter Expert knowledge and
experience, specifically related to Life Claims. This opportunity
includes engaging Leadership for the overall Life Claims
experience, including process/product development initiatives,
industry trends, and detailed claims analysis and reporting.
This role also serves as a technical resource on Property &
Casualty or Life claim projects, policies, and initiatives for
assigned line of business. Provides process, communications,
training, reporting, and stakeholder support to claims
operations.
Job Requirements
Primary Responsibilities:
Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from
business activities and the job role.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively
identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and
procedures for business activities.
Provides advice, direction, and information on technical and
complex claim related matters.
Claims settlement authority within assigned approval limits.
Identifies opportunities and solutions for process excellence and
process improvements for Claims business needs and assists in the
development of test strategies and criteria for technology and
process improvements.
Supports staff and operations on all initiatives, projects, and
operational activities.
Monitors and responds to claims technical issues providing
expertise on systems, documentation, and quality initiatives.
Assesses changes in state and federal legislation and litigation
for trends, issues, and precedents impacting claims service and
regulatory compliance.
Identifies implications and industry positions on emerging trends
and issues.
Monitors emerging technologies, benchmarks competitors and networks
with industry counterparts to identify issues impacting claims
service and expense.
Collaborates with stakeholders to identify opportunities to
incorporate third parties into Claims Processes.
Supports vendor management processes.
Supports claims related training programs.
Minimum Requirements:Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to
the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in
lieu of degree. (8 total years of experience).
Minimum Experience:
4 years of experience supporting Life and/or P&C insurance
products
Experience managing and/or making decisions on complex and
high-risk related items
Knowledge and understanding of P&C or Life insurance products
and services
Knowledge of relevant industry practices, trends, and state/federal
laws and regulations
Proficient communication skills, able to take complex information
and present or communicate it in an easily understandable
manner
Preferred Experience:
8 or more years of Life Claims experience relating to: Life Claims
Adjudication including, but not limited to, Accelerated Death
Benefits, Accidental Death, and/or Income Replacement
Fellow, Life and Health Claims (FLHC) and/or Associate, Life and
Health Claims (ALHC) designation
Expert Knowledge of State and Federal Laws and Regulations
applicable to Life Claims
Accountable for reviewing and approving settlement of most complex
and/or high dollar Life Claims
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Life Insurance Product/Contract Knowledge

Compensation:
USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and
establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid
within the salary range based on your experience and market
position. The salary range for this position is: $66,300 - $119,500
.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall
corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the
USAA Board of Directors.
