Position Scope/Decision Making Authority:
Supervises, administers, and performs order taking, plant
scheduling, truck scheduling and dispatching operations involved in
the sale and delivery of construction materials (aggregates and
asphalt). Responsible for providing excellent customer service
while ensuring timely deliveries, as well as proper and efficient
use of employees and equipment.
Essential Functions
Supervises and coordinates Logistics Service Specialists (LSS)
responsible for accurate order entry, timely delivery and excellent
customer service.
Schedules LSS and plant dispatch staff to support daily, weekly and
monthly sales forecast and meet customer's needs.
Attracts, retains, and motivates staff. Conducts effectively and
timely performance dialogues with staff members on a quarterly
basis.
Participates in the recruitment process, approving the selection
and hiring of employees.
Individual provides coaching and feedback to employees under his or
her area of responsibility.
Ensures that employees receive proper training and instructions to
perform assigned job duties.
Works closely with sales, operations and customers to ensure that
products meet customer needs and expectations.
Performs and coordinates job site activities acting as a liaison
between customers, haulers, sales and dispatch.
Works closely with sales and dispatch to enhance our service to
customers and to maximize job site trucking efficiency, including
standby mitigation.
Ensures that area of responsibility is in compliance with all
Company and Division policies and procedures to include
governmental rules and regulations;
Works with SHE Division and Company officials to promote a safe
work environment that meets all State and Federal rules and
regulations;
Ensures compliance with Department of Transportation motor carrier
rules and regulations including but not limited to hours of
service;
Attends pre-job meetings with Sales, Technical Services, Safety &
Health, and customers to discuss the project and customer's needs,
and to ensure that potential problems and safety hazards are
identified and properly mitigated or managed. Will also perform job
site service/project management while the job ships.
Oversees scheduling of the company fleet and external haulers.
Manages the day to day interaction with the independent
haulers.
Review daily order entry for completeness and accuracy.
Schedule and assign employee's work based on customer service needs
(manpower planning)
Works closely with inside and outside sales personnel on value
drivers and issues impacting customer satisfaction
Administers and enforces Company and Area policies and
procedures
Attend meetings with other departments, including Sales, Quality
Control, Operations, and Fleet Maintenance
Responsible for resolving conflicts involving order takers,
dispatchers, customers, operations and sales department.
Assists accounts receivable in investigating disputed invoices,
stand-by time, missing tickets, and missing ticket times.
Communicates driver performance, attendance and customer service
issues to Manager- Transportation Service or Manager-
Logistics.
Reviews, approves and maintains daily reports.
Approves time cards, authorizes and maintains dispatcher schedules
and tracks vacation usage.
Other duties may be assigned as required.
Qualifications Education:
BS/BA in business administration, logistics, construction
management or related degree is desirable or an equivalent
combination of training and work experience.
Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years' work experience in construction
materials or related industry. A minimum of one year supervisory,
customer service and logistics experience is also required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Solid understanding of the aggregate and asphalt business functions
as well as key drivers for sales, logistics and customer
satisfaction.
Strong logistics, dispatch and customer service
Environmental and safety regulations in trucking and terminal
operations.
Possess working knowledge of DOT (State and Federal) motor-carrier
rules and regulations to allow effective evaluation, representation
and management of Vulcan's interests in its relationships with
transportation services providers.
D.O.T, OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations;
Construction industry to include materials and project
management
Business planning skills
Quickly analyze and understand complex business and organization
issues
Superior analytical and problem solving skills
Develop creative solutions to address issues customer service,
logistics and job site issues/concerns
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively
interact with all levels of the organization.

Other Requirements
Must be able to sit for long periods;
Able to use common office tools and technology, such as cell/office
telephone, calculator, computer, and other electronic devices.
Capable of travel (both ground and air) as needed.
Must be able to drive a pick-up truck on a daily basis.
Work environment will be both indoors in an office and outside in
the quarry or plant. In the office, employee will occasionally be
required to sit at a desk or operator's station. In the outside
setting employee will perform activities in unprotected heights,
around moving machinery, be exposed to dust, fumes and gases; may
be required to use hand tools or power tools. Outside setting will
expose employee to changes in temperature/humidity and will require
walking on uneven surfaces.
Will be required to utilize proper personal protective equipment,
while on job sites. This may include the use of hearing and/or
respiratory protection.
Able to work varying work schedule, nights and weekends.
