Who We Are: SwRI is a nonprofit R&D organization that is seeking a skilled team member to support the design, development, fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair of electronic/electrical/mechanical and software related project work for government and commercial clients. By joining our team, you will received an additional $500.00 in your first paycheck (minus applicable taxes)! Objectives of this Role:

  • Provide support to scientific, engineering, and/or senior technical staff.
  • Work with multidisciplinary personnel to support the design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and support of custom electronics.
  • Support research and development projects for electronic (analog, digital, RF, optical, embedded, etc.), mechanical, optical, and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Use problem solving skills for work on challenging technical problems in a collaborative team environment.
  • Provide general engineering support: interact with vendors or SwRI shops, help in maintaining lab equipment, fabricate and assemble various systems, set up testing systems in the lab or field, and collect test data. Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
    • Solder surface mount components to printed circuit boards, perform soldering rework and repair, and circuit card assembly.
    • Perform test, inspect, and troubleshoot the electronic or mechanical assemblies.
    • Fabrication, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electronic and mechanical assemblies, electro-mechanical systems, mechanisms, and structures, including prototypes, and associated support equipment.
    • Use electronic tools to aid in the test/diagnosis/support of assigned work, ie: multimeters, signal generators, network analyzers, power supplies, and oscilloscopes.
    • Schematic capture and layout printed circuit boards (PCBs) using computer aided design software such as Altium Designer or similar type CAD programs. Requirements:
      • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
      • AS degree or classes in Electronics are helpful
      • 0-2 years: Personal experience in electronics, electrical, and mechanical related hobbies
      • An aptitude to troubleshoot and solve problems and use scientific principles to research technical areas in pursuit of knowledge is helpful
      • Must be capable of soldering, electronics and mechanical assembly, testing, measurement, and troubleshooting
      • Must be able to communicate clearly and present relevant technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel
      • Strong communication skills are required
      • Must be capable of either working independently or as part of a team
      • Must be able to read schematics and understand electronic design documentation
      • Must be able to use a computer and various operating and support software (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; Lab View, other, etc.)
      • Military training in electronic repair or maintenance (RADAR, communication equipment, aircraft electronics, etc) is helpful
      • Knowledge of technician level SolidWorks or CAD software is helpful
