Job Description:
Description Responsible for performing heavy, manual work
installing and maintaining County sewer and water systems. Clears
easements by brush cutting, weed-eating, uses chainsaws to cut
trees or limbs from County easements; repairs and cleans sewer
lines and systems; mixes concrete; adjusts and repairs manholes.
Assists construction crew in all phases of daily operations.
Responsible for maintaining and cleaning tools and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience
equivalent to graduation from high school with some experience in
plumbing work preferred.
Some experience using hand and power tools associated with utility
maintenance preferred.
Requires general knowledge of occupational hazards and safety
procedures.
Experience operating closed caption TV (CCTV) equipment
desired.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth
of Virginia with satisfactory driving record.
Requires an acceptable criminal background check.
Supplemental Information Work is performed outdoors in all types of
weather conditions and involves physical exertion and exposure to
the usual hazards such as motorized equipment and overhead and
underground utilities normally associated with construction and
maintenance work.
This position is considered an Essential Position (County
designation as ALPHA) which requires the employee to report to work
during inclement and extreme weather conditions, often outside
normally scheduled work hours. Additionally, the employee is
required to be on the division's on-call rotation list.
Physical Demands Must be physically able to operate a variety of
hand and power tools such as weedeaters, chain saws, TV inspection
equipment, saws, shovels, picks, axes, jackhammers, and pumps. Work
requires a great deal of walking, stooping, bending, frequent
lifting of objects between 40-75lbs, and pushing, and pulling.
