Description Description Summary Description: This position
coordinates inbound and outbound deliveries of freight for food and
non-food products into designated warehouses. Works with third
party distributors as necessary to protect supply chain and actual
demand. Supports Logistics Management by helping source carriers.
Serves as primary liaison between suppliers, Retail procurement,
distribution center shipping, receiving, logistics and Restaurant
units.RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Regulates distribution and logistics of material and finished
products to/from distributions centers, suppliers and restaurants.
Reviews freight purchase orders to sort/send supply to meet actual
demand. -
- Validates compliance and ensures due diligence for shipments
which have an extra layer of complexity requiring further
coordination (food handling, truck temperatures, food
security/recalls handling).
- Utilizes expertise in logistics to ensure ample supplies are
sufficient to meet demands. Forecasts disruptions to deliveries,
escalates freight delays due to weather catastrophes,
transportation safety, etc. to Management.
- Act as a facilitator for carrier problem resolution in regard
to shipper, consignee, or transportation matters and/or other
business issues.
- Coordinates distribution and logistics activities, Request for
Proposals (RFPs), contract administration, hard and electronic
filing by department.
- Monitors service provider's, large carrier's, logistics
provider's and third party distributors' weekly service level
reports to ensure that company and customer service requirements
are being met.
- Negotiates freight costs for food and non-food categories,
conducts cost analyses, makes recommendations which identify
service and cost improvement opportunities/processes.
- Maintains relationships with suppliers and conducts on-going
supplier assessments to observe supplier ability to meet capacity
and process needs. Improves efficiency by utilizing fewer carriers
through relationship-building.
- Aides in the reconciliation of bill of lading, receipt
discrepancies and/or invoice discrepancies. Takes action matters of
the department in routine and billing matters.
- Ensures proper logistics flows are adhered to throughout the
shipping/receiving process according to food and non-food handling
protocols. -
- Aids others in providing over-the-phone geographical directions
leading to distribution centers, adapting to challenges, guiding
communications between drivers and warehouses in a constantly
changing environment.
- Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications
EDUCATION: -
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
-EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in contributing to the management of projects is
preferred
- Experience preferably in Food or Distribution Industry
- 6+ months experience preferably in Food or Distribution
industry -KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledgeable in supply chain, transportation, accounting,
business administration, finance, etc. preferred -
- Skilled in resolving and handling Customer / Supplier requests
& issues
- Ability to proactively execute high volume of daily logistics
tasks
- Highly proficient in collaborating and communicating with
diverse teams in a fast-paced, tech-driven multi-state operational
environment
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Federal laws relating to
transportation -
- Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and
Visio (as applicable)
- Proficiency in JD Edwards (as applicable)
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Basic professional or theoretical knowledge and fundamental
concepts, practices and procedures of a particular field of
specialization in the execution of assigned duties and
responsibilities -
- Basic understanding of budgetary concepts and procedures -
- Basic understanding of departmental structure and policies with
a basic understanding of the cross- functional structure and
policies of Whataburger Restaurants LLC
- Basic ability to delegate tasks and get work done through
others -WORKING CONDITIONS/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Expected to work the necessary time to satisfactorily fulfill
job responsibilities
- Must be able to report to work timely and as required by
operational/business needs
- Must be able to work a full-time schedule and work outside of
normal business hours when necessary
- Must be able to travel occasionally both locally and long
distances (including air travel), to worksites, meeting sites, and
other locations
- Must possess a valid driver's license, submit to releasing a
Motor Vehicle Record that adheres to the Whataburger standards and
maintain current automobile liability at minimum levels in their
state of residence
